In the fragmented media world, it sometimes feels like content is just a commodity. But the stories you tell, and the personality you bring to them, are what makes you unique. We believe that content with value, and the brands that create it, demand the best editorial design thinking.
Mark Porter Associates is an award-winning design studio, based in the UK but with a global perspective. We work with all kinds of media companies, from the small to the very big, creating products and identities for digital, print, and television. Our design has won D&AD Yellow and Black Pencils, SPD Gold Awards, and even received an award for clarity and readability from the Plain English Campaign.
If content is what you care about, you should talk to us.
A comprehensive rebrand which broke new ground in TV news design. We completely reimagined RTL Nieuws, the biggest commercial news network in the Netherlands, from on-air, to studio, music, and digital platforms. Collaboration with Smörgåsbord Studio.
Mark Porter created a design philosophy and style for The Guardian which helped it build an international reputation. Beyond the influential and award-winning designs for the newspaper, website, and apps, the identity rolled out into motion, advertising and environments, making the Guardian one of the world’s most recognisable news organisations.
Internazionale is simply unique — a Rome-based news magazine and website with the highest journalistic standards and a passionately committed young audience. They have become friends, and as good friends should, they push us to do our best. We gave them their identity, print and web design, and are working closely with them on long-term strategy and development.
RTLZ wanted to grow up, from a daytime financial news service into a credible and sophisticated business lifestyle channel. We delivered assets and visual guidelines which ensured that all elements shared a cohesive and unmistakable look. In the words of the tagline we coined for the channel, it’s “Business — not as usual.” (Collaboration with Smörgåsbord Studio).
Smart Swedes wouldn’t leave home without Svenska Dagbladet — Stockholm’s seriously cool newspaper of record. We consulted for Creative Director Anna Thurfjell on a range of projects, including redesigns of the daily paper and website, and a series of stylish magazines and supplements.
We are collaborating with our friends at Spanish studio Atlas on the launch of a new digital news platform. Based in Barcelona, EL Nacional has big ambitions to be a major force in Catalan, European and Global news. Phase 1, the blog, is now live. Watch out for Phase 2.
UK charity Nesta asked us to create a new digital magazine on the theme of Innovation — one where the magazine, like the ideas it covered, would be an innovation in itself. The Long+Short pushed the boundaries, bringing high-end magazine design and art direction to HTML-based publishing (without parallax scrolling).
The French do things differently. We fell in love with French visual culture when we immersed ourselves in Gallic art, graphics, and film for this redesign of Courrier International, a Paris-based weekly newspaper.
Business matters in Norway — the country’s Government Pension Fund is the world’s biggest investor. Dagens Naeringsliv is the go-to news source for the Norwegian business community. We refreshed their identity, gave the newspaper and website a bold, contemporary new design, and improved the reading experience in preparation for the introduction of a paywall and premium subscriber-only content.
